"Mature Content"
This character or verse has mature themes and concepts, thus those of young age are ill-advised to look through these.

Impudent cur! You're no true child of the night. Maggots will feast on your hide!
~ Carmilla to Cornell
Ah, that's more like it. You will learn your place as a child of the night.
~ Carmilla to Cornell
This castle is a creature of Chaos. With each rebirth it takes a new form.
~ Alucard describing Dracula's Castle to Maria Renard

Background

Children of the Night (otherwise known as Creatures of the Night or Creatures of Chaos) are creatures existing as servants of Chaos in the Castlevania series, who exist to keep the balance between light and dark. This name was noted by Carmilla to Cornell during Castlevania Judgment[1]. Their name "Creatures of Chaos" was said by Alucard when describing[2] Dracula's Castle to Maria Renard. They are normally ruled by a Dark Lord, who acts as the opposition to God. They are constantly reborn by Chaos, sometimes changing form and shape from their original state, existing purely to spread chaos worldwide.
Vampires are timeless, undead creatures that appear as the main antagonists in the Castlevania series, where they aim to envelop the world in chaos and darkness.

Originating from Slavic and ancient folklore, these beings are thought to come from the souls of the restless dead, individuals shunned by religion, or those who dabble in dark magic. Some legends suggest they may even arise from people who have made sinister bargains. Vampires are infamous for their insatiable thirst for blood and possess a variety of dark powers, such as superhuman strength, the ability to shapeshift, flight, teleportation, and control over electricity and fire. They can turn others into vampires by sharing their blood and are vulnerable to sunlight, holy items, or having their hearts destroyed. In some narratives, they also emit a hissing sound when agitated.

In Castlevania, vampires differ from traditional depictions. They retain many of their classic traits but also have the ability to perform black magic. Some can tap into a force known as Chaos, which embodies all evil, allowing them to enhance their abilities, although this often leads to further corruption.

Dracula, the iconic vampire in this series, showcases unique powers. He can absorb the malevolence of humanity to resurrect himself after extended periods, summon lesser demons, and inflict curses of decay, plague, and famine on the land. He can also deepen the corruption within human hearts, suggesting that his abilities stem from being chosen by Chaos as a Dark Lord, with only a select few able to gain such powers.

In the Castlevania series, vampires are depicted as a profound menace to humanity. While their exact origins remain unclear, it’s evident they have existed long before Dracula’s rise. They can emerge either by renouncing their humanity—often with the help of magical artifacts—or through being transformed by another vampire.

With the real world and world of grimoires being one and the same[56], compared to the like of Brauner's painting worlds that are quantum multi-layered spaces requiring understandings of theories such as "Curse Amplification"[57]), Text Manipulation & Plot Manipulation (Passive; Creatures of the night's dark powers allowed them to rewrite the Grimoires to strengthen their dark powers greatly[58]. It is noted by Lucy that the "vital soul" of a monster is the cause of the grimoire chaos[59]. Their vital souls are causing the grimoires contents to be overwritten changing history to things such as Jonathan Morris is now at a disadvantage in battle[60], or Charlotte fading from existence due to them messing with the history of the Grimoires[61], Maria starting to fade because Richter's history is being rewritten[62], where if the contents of the book change the creatures magic will keep growing and eventually overflow into reality, causing the grimoire to fall into chaos and even more monsters materializing into the real world[63]. Along with this to protect against ice attacks in series, one normally wears rings that help them resist against absolute zero[71]), Time Manipulation (All immortal beings disrupt the flow of time according to Aeon[72], with their souls being completely free from time[73]. With time in Castlevania being so potent that not even eternity can withstand time[74], along with even artificial life being subject to the laws of time[75]. Immortal Metaphysical Aspect; Vampires will someday come back to life despite them being killed due to being immortal[89]), Acausality (Causality Immunity; All immortal beings disrupt the flow of time according to Aeon[90]. It is noted by Lucy that the "vital soul" of a monster is the cause of the grimoire chaos[121]. Their vital souls are causing the grimoires contents to be overwritten changing history to things such as Jonathan Morris is now at a disadvantage in battle[122], or Charlotte fading from existence due to them messing with the history of the Grimoires[123], Maria starting to fade because Richter's history is being rewritten[124], where if the contents of the book change the creatures magic will keep growing and eventually overflow into reality, causing the grimoire to fall into chaos and even more monsters materializing into the real world[125]. The text alterations also make the monsters stronger[126]. With the real world and world of grimoires being one and the same[127], compared to the like of Brauner's painting worlds that are quantum multi-layered spaces requiring understandings of theories such as "Curse Amplification"[128]), Law Manipulation (Vampires can alter grimoires, which do not adhere to the laws of reality[129]), Power Modification (Vampire's alterations of the Grimoire can greatly limit the powers of those far stronger than them, such as Jonathan Morris' power being limited due to the alterations[130]. Equipment

Dracula's Castle

A castle that serves as many of the Children of the Nights residence and home base, normally having a home field advantage through this as many different hunters need to come directly to them in order to confront them.

Notable Techniques

For Vampires

  • Blood Draining: Vampires can bite and drink the blood of their victims. Blood acts as a source of energy and life for vampires and creatures of the night, an example of this being Red Skeletons who endlessly[145] regenerate[146], from any kind[147] of damage due to it absorbing blood[148].
  • Transformation: Vampires are able to turn into bats, wolves, fog, and other sorts of creatures as they please.
  • Super Strength: Vampires are incredibly superhumanly strong, even for the average creature of the night, being noted to be stronger than even Werewolves.
  • Super Speed: Vampires can move incredibly fast, to where all of them leave behind light projections due to how fast they're moving, while they can control their speeds even to approach speeds such as sound. They are normally beyond even other creatures in the castle such as the White Demon who moves at the speed of light at top speed.

Other

Team Tactics: Creatures of the Night normally attack along a wide range of an area, normally attacking in large groups, in order for one to deal with all of them, they'll need to reach Dracula's Castle and take out the current Dark Lord in power, this will require going through many rooms within the tower where groups of the Children of the Night have their own different strategies that will sometimes change per era.

  119. WN: Last question. Why does Dracula keep putting meat inside the walls of his castle?

KI: You should ask, why do they eat it! I've thought about this stuff.
I've actually thought about the candles. The candles are people's souls that were taken by Death or by the vampires. In Japan there are candles that represent life. So, when you release the souls from the candles by whipping them, they give you a "thank you" present. Thank-you hearts, or thank-you holy water.
The meat, I have no idea.
